On November 6th, 2024, Youth Volunteers for the Environment (YVE) Ghana hosted a strategic activity aimed at promoting eco-tourism in the Ho Municipality. This event, part of the second phase of the Eco-Conservation Initiative project, brought together tour guides from three key communities: Likpe, Tokokoe, and Amedzofe.

The initiative focused on enhancing local knowledge and collaboration around the rich tourism potential within the project communities. Each of these areas boasts unique natural landscapes and cultural heritage—from the lush trails of Likpe and the serene surroundings of Tokokoe to the iconic Mount Gemi and canopy walkways in Amedzofe.

With eco-tourism increasingly recognized as a sustainable development pathway, the session aimed to strengthen the capacities of local tour guides to provide meaningful, environmentally conscious visitor experiences. Discussions centered on responsible tourism, local storytelling, conservation awareness, and strategies for promoting lesser-known yet breathtaking sites in the Volta Region.

Participants shared insights on how eco-tourism can create jobs, preserve biodiversity, and build pride in community heritage—all while attracting visitors in ways that are respectful of the environment and local culture.

This activity builds on YVE Ghana’s broader mission under the Eco-Conservation Initiative to empower communities to protect and benefit from their natural resources. As the project progresses, future engagements will continue to spotlight the role of tourism in environmental stewardship and economic resilience.
