From April 1st to 5th, 2024, Youth Volunteers for the Environment (YVE) Ghana held a sustainable farming training in the Likpe Mate community in Ghana. This initiative brought together selected farmers from both Likpe and Tokokoe to deepen their knowledge and skills in sustainable agriculture and climate resilience.

The training formed part of the first phase of the Eco-conservative Initiative project, which is being implemented under the Strengthen the Roots programme with the support of partners A Rocha Ghana and the West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI).
Through interactive sessions and hands-on demonstrations, participants explored eco-friendly farming practices, sustainable land use, and community-led conservation strategies. The goal was to empower local farmers with practical tools to improve productivity while protecting the environment—a crucial step in the face of growing climate challenges.
Beyond skill-building, the session also fostered dialogue between the two communities, encouraging knowledge exchange and collective problem-solving around land management and food security. Farmers shared their experiences and explored how traditional knowledge can be combined with modern techniques for greater impact.
This training marks a significant milestone in YVE Ghana’s ongoing efforts to support grassroots resilience and environmental stewardship. As the Eco-conservative Initiative project unfolds, more activities are planned to deepen community engagement and strengthen the capacities of local actors driving change from the ground up.
Stay tuned as we continue to highlight the voices and efforts of communities taking action to protect their ecosystems and secure a sustainable future.
